Check Homework

Parents, in a previous article I explained that as parents we can set a really good example by helping our children with their homework while also doing some of our own homework too. However, what if we are not home when our children are doing their homework?” This is not a problem, nor is it unusual since many of us are still at work when our children return home from school, which is when they are most likely doing their homework. The simple answer here is to still find a way somehow before bed to check homework and do some of your own too.

Now I said this homework answer was simple, but I did not say that it would be easy. We parents work hard long hours at our place of employment and have many responsibilities there. The last thing many of us want is more stuff to do when we get home. We are tired and we are probably not very excited about doing extra stuff, like checking our kids’ homework and doing our own self-assigned homework so we could be a good role model to our kids.

Well, regardless of how tired we may be, we still need to take a moment to get our kids talking about their homework and what they are doing in school. This will deepen their understanding of their school work and help them to be better prepared to participate in tomorrow’s classroom discussion. This ability to participate in class will build their self-confidence and get them better grades, as well as put them on the road to more success. We must never forget that we are their parents and our actions through extra effort will help lead our children down the right road.

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, “Go learn, lead and lay the way to a better world for all of us. “Let’s remember to do what’s right, and not succumb to what’s easy. Let’s check our kids’ homework every night. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
