WeHa PD Reporting Storm Impacts, Crash
As West Hartford is slammed with wind and rain, local police urge caution as trees are down and some traffic lights aren't working.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Local police are reporting a damaged traffic signal pole in town following a one-care motor vehicle accident on rain-slicked roads during a storm that seems to be hitting West Hartford hard.
Schools were quickly canceled this morning due to the deteriorating situation in town, prompting school officials to apologize for the late cancelation.
"Due to the high winds and power outages around town, West Hartford Public Schools will be closed today, Friday, December 23, 2022. WHPS apologizes for the late notice for this emergency weather closing," wrote school officials on the school system's website.

According to the West Hartford Police Department's Twitter feed, the crash was at Farmington Avenue and South Main Street at about 5:45 a.m.
As a result of the accident, all traffic control signals at that intersection are "on flash," police said.

"Please use caution when traveling through the area, and seek alternate routes if you are able" police said.
Police said at 6:05 a.m. they are receiving reports of traffic lights out and trees down throughout West Hartford, as the state is being pummeled by a wind/rain storm that blew in Thursday.
"Please travel with caution and give West Hartford Public Works room to work," Tweeted the WHPD.
According to the West Hartford Public Works Department, crews are responding to multiple calls for downed trees or large limbs on the roads.
It is urging folks to, simply, stay inside if possible.
"Don’t be a target for a tree. Avoid travel if you can. Let DPW and Public Safety do their job," wrote West Hartford DPW via Twitter Friday morning.
West Hartford DPW officials said the area near the Westfarms Mall is particularly hard hit regarding stoplight outages and they're urging caution in that area.
"Several stop lights out especially by the mall. Please stop and look both ways. Safety first. Delay your commute if you can," wrote the West Hartford DPW via Twitter.
As of 7:23 a.m., however, West Hartford appeared to be doing OK regarding power outages, with Eversource Energy reporting only 3.44 percent of the town without power — 995 customers.
