Off-Duty Cop Catches Car Burglars In West Hartford

Two teens were caught burglarizing vehicles during the overnight hours in West Hartford.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — An off-duty West Hartford Police Officer helped catch two juvenile car burglars during the overnight hours on Thursday. The officer witnessed the attempted burglary of a vehicle parked on Sunny Reach Drive during the early morning hours on Oct. 26, according to police.

Police said the officer followed the suspect, while providing information directly to responding units. Officers from West Hartford and Bloomfield established a perimeter and searched the area.

“Ultimately, two suspects were detained, and vehicles at multiple residences were found to have been burglarized,” police wrote in the report. “The suspects were in possession of items identified as having been stolen during this crime spree.”

Two juvenile suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were arrested. Both were charged with various burglary, larceny, and conspiracy related offenses.
