Photos of dancers to grace the walls of the Duncaster Art Gallery throughout July and August

“Images of Dancers” will grace the walls of the Duncaster Art Gallery throughout the months of July and August. There will be a reception for the photographer, Duncaster resident Ron Compton, on July 1 at 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. until Sept. 7.
The display of 36 photos showing male and female dancers performing and in classic dance poses is the product of Compton’s decades-long passion for the art of the dance. It started when he asked Enid Lynn, the head of the school of the Hartford Ballet if he could take some photos of the dancers. One of the shots he took of a student who was to join a major ballet company ended up as the cover of a magazine.
From there, the passion took on a life of its own. Compton started donating his time to do portfolio pictures for the dancers of the Hartford Ballet. He’s also done photos for students of The University of Hartford’s The Hartt School, Julliard, the Ballet Theater of Connecticut and Dance EnLight. In the 1990s he was asked to do a book of his dance photos by Aperture Publishing, the number one publisher of photographic books in the U.S.A. “I got a reputation for taking these pictures,” he says. “I really enjoy doing it. I’ve been a follower of dance for many years and I feel lucky to have the opportunity to photograph these performers and to get to know them.”
