UPDATE: Jogger Has "Critical Injuries" After Being Hit by Car in West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT - A jogger has been left with critical injuries after and is being cared for at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford after being hit by a car Wednesday night.

Police have identified the jogger as Andrej Cavarkapa, 30, of West Hartford, who was jogging west on Asylum Avenue before the incident occurred near the Trout Brook Drive intersection at about 6:35 p.m., according to a release.

Cavarkapa has been identified as a RHAM High School physics teacher, according to NBC Connecticut.

The driver of the car, Khang Nguyen, 19 years old, of South Windsor, was not injured. Police saidis car, a 2009 Honda Civic, has front end and windshield damage and was towed as part of the investigation.

Witnesses told officers the driver had a green light and proceeded through the intersection before striking Cavarkapa, who apparently jogged in to the path of the car. The traffic lights and walk signals were functioning properly at the time of the accident.
