Legrand in West Hartford Takes Part in Green Apple Day of Service

WEST HARTFORD, CT – Legrand North America, the global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, participated in the Green Apple Day of Service on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Hartford Public High School.

Volunteers from Legrand North America’s West Hartford corporate headquarters joined students, teachers, parents, community leaders and other local businesses in grounds clean up, gardening and various outdoor building projects.

Leading the project was the Hartford Public Schools’ Academy of Engineering and Green Technology, and the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, with participation from local businesses, according to a release.

Legrand’s participation is part of the company’s Better Communities volunteer program, which has expanded its focus to include improving schools by seeking opportunities to create sustainable learning spaces in the communities where the company does business.

“This was an exciting event that improves the quality of life for our local community, and also provided a rewarding experience for our volunteers,” VP of Energy Efficiency, Sustainability & Public Policy Susan Rochford said in a release. “Events like this bring neighbors and companies together in many positive ways. We’re very proud of our employees’ support of the Green Apple Day of Service.”

More than a dozen Legrand North America volunteers and upwards of 100 Hartford Public High School students from various grades participated.

Cleanup, repair and revitalization projects for the half day event included:

• Multiple trash crews walking and cleaning up surrounding neighborhoods;
• Several weeding and tree trimming projects;
• Spreading mulch throughout flowerbeds, tree and shrub areas;
• Cleaning up “My Sister’s Place” and the Salvation Army Community Park.

“With thousands of communities participating in the Day of Service all over the world, organizations like Legrand North America are helping transform local schools into spaces that enhance learning, protect the environment, support the health and wellness of their community,” CEO and founder of USGBC Rick Fedrizzisaid in a release. "We extend our gratitude to the devoted volunteers who have spread the importance of maintaining safe, healthy, and sustainable environments for the students who enter a Hartford Public High School every day.”
