More People are Leaving Connecticut than Moving to the State, Study Says
The state ranked in the top ten states for outbound migration handled by a specific moving company.

Data recently released by Atlas Van Lines says more people are moving out of Connecticut than moving into the state.
The state had the sixth highest percentage of people moving out of the state last year, close to 59 percent, ranking sixth among state that has outbound migration, according to the data.
Of the 2,142 moves handled by the company in 2016 involving Connecticut, the data shows 1,261 were for people leaving the state while comparatively only 881 were moves inbound.

This is an even wider gap than in 2015, where 1,236 moves were inbound compared to the 968 moves that were inbound.
Both years were still a spike from 2014, where only 849 of the moves handled by the company were inbound to Connecticut. Data shows the outbound totals for that year to be 1,223.

The big takeaway from the data is that since at least 2007 (as far as the data goes back on the website), the number of inbound moves has not been higher than the outbound total. Outbound totals have also not gone below 1,000.
The closest years for this to almost occur were in 2007 (1,353 inbound compared to 1,391 outbound), 2008 (1,012 inbound and 1,307 outbound) and 2010 (1,009 inbound and 1,160 outbound).
Ahead of Connecticut with higher outbound percentages are Wyoming, Nebraska, Illinois, Delaware and Louisiana respectively. Inversely, Idaho had the highest inbound percentage in the entire country.
