New Opportunities with West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund

In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 Community Funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes the town of West Hartford. The West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund is looking for young adults to participate in decision making, grant funding, and operations decisions.

The purpose of the Community Funds is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs in their towns and encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement. West Hartford residents play the lead role in deciding how the Community Fund will be used.

The West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund is handled by an Advisory Committee of town residents that is inclusive, representative, and reflective of all of the residents of West Hartford. The all-volunteer advisory committee currently includes 11 members and is looking for additional young adult members, aged 14-20. A full recruitment period open to all residents of West Hartford will begin in the Fall of 2023.

Committee membership includes West Hartford residents age 14 and older, other than those who currently hold elected office or who are running for elective office.

This Advisory Committee is responsible for:

• Deciding on the Committee’s operating procedures,
• Receiving and evaluating applications to the fund, and
• Making fund distribution decisions in this and coming years.

As part of the 2023 application process, applicants will be asked to submit a short video explaining their interest in joining the advisory committee.
