Northwest Catholic Home to Two National Merit Finalists
Northwest Catholic seniors Michael Foster of Wethersfield and Meghan O'Shea of West Hartford National Merit Finalists.

Last fall the National Merit Scholarship Program released the names of this year’s National Merit Semifinalists. Northwest Catholic seniors Michael Foster of Wethersfield and Meghan O’Shea of West Hartford were among the elite. On February 11, both Michael and Meghan learned that they have been officially named Finalists.
Michael and Meghan now qualify to be recipients of one of 7,500 Merit Scholarships. Next month the National Merit Scholarship Program will announce which college-bound students will receive a portion of its $31 million scholarship fund, money provided by hundreds of businesses and universities who share NMSC’s goals of recognizing the nation’s most academically accomplished.
Over 1.6 million students in more than 22,000 high schools across the country entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test), also known as NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). The pool of Semifinalists is comprised of less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
