1 Dead, Police Officer Injured After West Hartford Shooting: Police
The state's Office of the Inspector General is investigating the officer-involved shooting, which took place late Tuesday afternoon.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — One individual is dead and one West Hartford police officer was taken to the hospital after a police investigation turned violent, resulting in the officer shooting a person, authorities said.
According to the WHPD, the state's Office of the Inspector General is investigating the incident, which took place at about 5 p.m. Tuesday on New Britain Avenue near New Park Avenue.
"During the incident, a West Hartford Police officer discharged their firearm, striking an individual," wrote the WHPD early Wednesday morning.

"Lifesaving efforts were provided to the individual on scene. The individual was then transported to an area hospital where they died as a result of their injuries."
Police said the officer involved in the incident sustained "non-life-threatening injuries."

That officer, who has not been identified, was transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation.
News reports Wednesday morning from the scene showed multiple wrecked vehicles in that part of town.
As a result of the ongoing probe, New Britain Avenue between New Park and Hillcrest
avenues was closed to pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic in both directions.
Early Wednesday afternoon, the WHPD announced that the road was reopened. "Thank you for your patience while the roadways were closed," wrote police.
Police had no further information, including details on the incident or the person killed.
The WHPD deferred further questions to the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.
