One Year Later: WHPD Seeks Suspect In Fatal Hit-And-Run
The West Hartford PD Wednesday reminded the public about efforts to find the motorist responsible for a fatal pedestrian incident in 2022.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Exactly one year ago, 89-year-old Eugenia Yurovsky was crossing the street near the intersection of Boulevard and Whiting Lane.
It was early evening in the runup to Christmas, about 5 p.m. and the winter solstice had the sun setting about 40 minutes earlier.
That's when Yurovsky's life ended violently at the hands of a vehicle, a frightening incident in a month of frightening incidents that changed forever how West Hartford looks at pedestrian/vehicle safety.

Now, one year later, the West Hartford Police Department made it clear they're still looking for that vehicle and the driver in the hit-and-run.
And, they said, there's still $26,000 in reward money for information leading to an arrest in connection with the incident.

Yurovsky's death was one of five in West Hartford that month, with three killed in a head-on collision on Christmas Day 2022.
The month of accidents and tragedies pushed the West Hartford Town Council to embark on the "Vision Zero" initiative, where the town is overhauling its approach to pedestrian/vehicular safety with the goal being "zero" fatalities in the next several years.
As for the Yurovsky case, the West Hartford Lions Club has put up a $1,000 reward along with Gov. Ned Lamont's office, which put up $25,000 for information leading to an arrest.
Local police believe the vehicle was a 2010-15 model GMC sport utility vehicle, with the SUV sustaining damage to the front driver side of the grille and bumper area.
The WHPD has even released images of white/silver-colored vehicles that are believed to look like the one alleged in the accident.
"We will not stop investigating and will continue to pursue all leads to bring justice to Eugenia and may her soul rest in peace," wrote the WHPD in a statement Wednesday.
"If you know something please call us, don’t let this weigh on your conscious this holiday season."
