Parade Participants Sought In West Hartford
The annual Park Road Parade is expected to draw 7,000 plus to West Hartford on Oct. 1.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A wildly popular fall tradition, the Park Road Parade, is searching for groups to show off their offerings via creative parade floats.
As a result, the Park Road Association is now inviting the West Hartford community to sign-up for the annual Park Road Parade, which is Saturday, Oct. 1.

"The Park Road Parade is a true community event showcasing everyone’s favorite clubs, organizations, schools, bands, neighborhood groups, businesses, churches, sport teams and even clowns," reads a Town of West Hartford announcement. "Parade participants range from marchers carrying simple banners to amazing floats. We want you to be part of it."
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the corner of Park Road and South Highland and ends at South Quaker Lane. and it lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

It usually comprises about 70 contingents and draws more than 7,000 people each year from West Hartford and beyond.
"You don't have to have all the details finalized right now, just let us know you want to be in the parade," reads the town bulletin on the event. "Please note: Only elected officials who presently hold an office may march in the parade."
Each year, awards are given to Best Float, Best Overall Performance, Best Costume, Best Musical Performance and Best Community Spirit.
The parade started in 1998 as a celebration to a two-year road reconstruction and beautification project.
