Retired West Hartford Police Captain Dies
David Dubiel served the citizens of West Hartford for more than 20 years with the police department.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Retired Capt. David Dubiel, who served more than 20 years with the West Hartford Police Department, died Thursday after a long battle with brain cancer, according to an announcement Friday by Capt. Michael Perruccio.
"It is with deep sadness that the West Hartford Police Department reports the passing of retired Police Captain David Dubiel. Dave lost his long and courageous battle with brain cancer yesterday (10/17/19)," Perruccio said in a statement released to the media. "Dave retired after 21 years of service in 2012 as the Captain of Support Services. He was an outstanding person, athlete, and police officer. We ask you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Details of services will be posted soon as they are arranged."
Dubiel was hired by the West Hartford Police Department on June 9, 1991 and graduated with the second highest grade point average in his class. He was promoted to sergeant in 2001, to lieutenant in 2005 and to captain in early 2012. He served the department in numerous capacities, including SWAT team leader, canine officer, field training supervisor, community relations division commander and public information officer. He retired Sept. 11, 2012.

Dubiel was the recipient of multiple letters of thanks and praise, as well as many department citations throughout his distinguished career, Perruccio said.
After retiring, Dubiel was an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Manchester Community College. He also taught part time at Central Connecticut State University and Post University. His wife and son reside in South Windsor.
