Safely Dump Your Drugs At West Hartford Event Saturday

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District is hosting a collection event on 'National Drug Take-Back Day' Saturday, Oct. 28.

WEST HARTFORD/BLOOMFIELD, CT — Local residents needing to safely unload those unnecessary, but still potentially hazardous, prescriptions can do so this Saturday.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, in conjunction with the West Hartford Police Department, will hold its annual National Drug Take Back Day.

National Take Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medication in an environmentally safe manner.

These drugs can contaminate waterways when flushed and are a potential risk to public health and safety when used illegally.

Collection activities will take place at Charter Oak International Academy parking lot, 425 Oakwood Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program is anonymous and free of charge. Volunteers will be on hand to take items from your vehicle.

Accepted are prescription and over-the-counter dosage medications, i.e. tablets, capsules, vaping products and liquids.

Not accepted are intravenous solutions, injectable medicines, Epipens, and needles.
