Update: Sentencing Decision Reached for Convicted Bail Bondswoman in West Hartford Killing

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Angela Grasso was sentenced to 25 years in prison Wednesday for killing her boyfriend, Jose Mendez, in 2014.
She was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Juliett Crawford, and before the decision was rendered, Grasso apologized for the crime but reiterated it was in self defense, reports the Hartford Courant.
Original story: Angela Grasso, a bail bondswoman from Plainville, is scheduled to be sentenced today, April 13, following her first-degree manslaughter with a firearm conviction in the shooting death of her boyfriend, Jose Mendez, in 2014.

The Hartford Courant reports that Grasso faces a prison sentence of five to 40 years. Had she been convicted ofa murder charge, which prosecutors initially sought, she could have faced 25 to 60 years in prison.
Grasso, 29, claimed self-defense during her trial, her attorney arguing that Mendez had become unhinged and threatened to kill her and her two children.

Prosecutors argued that Mendez was an extortionist who allegedly had information about Grasso that could threaten her job, but she had not sought help from authorities.
