Suspicious Package Briefly Closes Road in West Hartford: Police

The lock box was determined to contain medication following an investigation by the Hartford Bomb Squad.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Park Road in West Hartford was temporarily closed Friday morning as police investigated a suspicious package that turned out to be medication.

West Hartford Police responded to the corner of Park and South Highland Street shortly after 6 a.m. on the report of a suspicious item. Responding officers found a sentry lock box that was in a position that appeared someone had set it down and walked away from it, according to the police report.

Due to the unusual location and condition of the box, police contacted the Hartford Bomb Squad to have a tech respond to evaluate the scene.

The Hartford Bomb Squad determined that the contents of the lock box was medication. Once it was confirmed, police determined the owner of the medication.

The owner of the box reported leaving it on the sidewalk by mistake.

Police said there will be no charges filed in the incident and there will be no further investigation.

There was a temporary detour for traffic and pedestrians around the package but there were no evacuations and businesses were permitted to operate normally, according to police.
