Want Housing? Get Paperwork In To WHHA

West Hartford Housing Authority collecting pre-applications for subsidized housing in town through July 5.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Those seeking federally subsidized housing through the town's housing authority have until early next month to get some necessary paperwork turned in to have a chance.

The West Hartford Housing Authority will be accepting pre-applications for three West Hartford apartments in the Project Based Voucher (Section 8) Program through Tuesday, July 5.
Applicants must be eligible by household size for an efficiency unit (0 bedroom) or one-bedroom unit and meet income and other eligibility guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The participating West Hartford apartments are:
• The Residences at 540 New Park (13 apartment units), 540 New Park Ave., West Hartford.
• Elm Grove Senior Apartments, for those 55 and over, 11 Grove St., West Hartford.
• Alfred E. Plant Senior Apartments, for those 55 and over, 759 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.
Elm Grove and Alfred E. Plant apartments have additional eligibility requirements as the applicant or other adult household member must be at least 55 years of age or older.
Household members under the age of 18 may not be part of an application.
The PBV Program is a federally funded program, which provides units with rental subsidies to eligible households.
Applicants must meet all HUD and WHHA income and eligibility guidelines.
Those include: $39,450 for one person and $45,100 for a couple.
Only one pre-application per family will be accepted. Duplicate pre-applications will be disqualified.

This pre-application is accessible through any computer, tablet or smart phone.

The Housing Authority of the Town of West Hartford will have computers, staff and volunteers available only on Wednesday, June 29, between 9 a.m. and noon at West Hartford Town Hall Social Services, 50 S. Main St., Room 306, and the West Hartford Housing Authority, 80 Shield St., West Hartford.
The housing authority will use a random-draw lottery system to select 400 pre-applications from among eligible pre-applications.
The date and time of your application will not impact the selection or placement on the waiting list.
Those chosen in the lottery will be notified by mail no later than Aug. 1.
All disqualified or remaining pre-applications not selected for the lottery will be discarded with no further notice.
If you do not receive a letter by Aug. 1, your pre-application was not drawn.
