Webster House Hosting America 250 Event On Declaration of Independence

A local historian will discuss the Declaration of Independence at a June 18 lecture in West Hartford, with tickets still available.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society will host a lecture examining the Declaration of Independence as part of its America250 programming on June 18.

The event, titled “The Declaration of Independence: A Minute Reading Into Meaning, Memory & Fantastical Misunderstanding,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, at the Noah Webster House, 227 South Main St.

The lecture will be presented by Dr. Matt Warshauer, a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University.

Organizers said the presentation will explore the meaning of the Declaration of Independence, how it has been remembered over time, and common misconceptions surrounding the document.

The event is the final lecture in the organization’s America 250 series, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.

Tickets are available for $5 for museum members and $8 for the general public.

The lecture is co-hosted by the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, the West Hartford Town Historian, and West Hartford America 250.
