This support, which helps promote both institutions’ missions to support the community of West Hartford, goes beyond the Work Day program.
This December, the Noah Webster House will assist the Rotary Club of West Hartford with presenting all West Hartford Public School third-graders with their very own Merriam-Webster Dictionary, all of which were purchased by the Rotary Club of West Hartford.
“We are most grateful to the Rotary Club of West Hartford for their generous support of the Life on the Webster Farm series in 2024,” said Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical SocietyExecutive Director Jeffrey Mainville.
“These family-friendly activities offer parents and children a unique opportunity to learn together and explore something fun that doesn’t require a computer screen. Our hope was to offer free admission to children 12 and under for these programs, and thanks to our friends at the Rotary Club, we are now able to do so.”
With a focus on families, "Life on the Webster Farm: Work Days" is a monthly Saturday program that takes place between 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Participation in the "Life on the Webster Farm: Work Days" activities is included with the purchase of regular adult admission to the historic house. Children under 12 years of age are free.
Each program focuses on a different aspect of early American life and features live demonstrations by experienced museum educators.
Currently, there are programs scheduled for Nov. 25, Jan. 13, Feb. 10, March 9, April 13, May 11, and June 8, each focusing on a unique aspect of early American work and play.
The museum already plans to extend this program and will announce more Work Day programs soon for the latter half of 2024.
With topics such as cheese making and dancing, there is something for everyone.
The next Work Day is on Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Noah Webster House from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This month’s program will focus on hearth cooking.
Visitors will be able to join experienced museum educators as they demonstrate how to cook over the open flame in the museum’s 18th-century reproduction fireplace.
Visitors can enjoy a sample of hot cider and Johnnycakes.
November’s Work Day is part of the Noah Webster House’s series of Thanksgiving Weekend activities.
The museum will be open to visitors Friday to Sunday, November 24-26, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society preserves the birthplace of Noah Webster, American founding father, educator, author and lexicographer, and interprets his life and legacy.
