West Hartford Board of Education Votes on Budget for 2015-16
The town council is scheduled to adopt a total budget on April 20.

The West Hartford Board of Education approved a $148.38 million budget for 2015-16, which represents a 1.7 percent increase over the current spending plan, according to the Hartford Courant.
The Courant reports the school board reduced Superintendent of Schools Tom Moore’s proposed budget by $206,000 prior to Tuesday night’s vote due to a lower than expected bid for electricity and because of energy conservation efforts.
The four Democrats on the board voted in favor of the budget, while Republicans Jay Sarzen and Mark Zydanowicz cast protest votes even though they said they supported the spending plan, according to the Courant.

Sarzen and Zydanowicz used their negative votes to criticize State Sen. Beth Bye and Rep. Andy Fleischmann, both Democrats, saying they should be doing more to increase state educational cost-sharing funds to West Hartford, according to the Courant.
A final total budget is scheduled to be adopted by the town council on April 20.
