West Hartford FD Never Forgets 9/11

Firefighters Sunday place flowers at memorial honoring NYFD member killed that day who had local ties.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Local firefighters Sunday honored a New York city firefighter killed on Sept. 11, 2001 who had ties to West Hartford.

As they do annually on Sept. 11, the West Hartford Fire Department paid tribute to those killed on that horrible day 21 years ago.

"Our 343 brothers of the FDNY will never be forgotten," wrote West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 via Facebook.

Members of the WHFD's Truck 3 unit placed flowers at the memorial for Battalion Chief Thomas Deangelis of FDNY, who died on Sept. 11, 2001. His family is from West Hartford.

Following remembrance ceremonies conducted at each individual firehouse, Rabbi Tuvia Brander along with volunteers from Young Israel West Hartford provided a brunch/omelet bar for police and responders.

He then presented the department with a picture of the twin towers and the FDNY fire boat that was taken by Allan Weitz, who is a member of the temple.
