West Hartford Fire Department Offering Hearing Impaired Free Smoke Detectors

WEST HARTFORD, CT – The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office is reaching out to the deaf community to offer smoke alarms to any residents with hearing impairments.

The initiative is part of an effort to ensure proper smoke detection in the homes of the community, according to a release.

West Hartford is home to the American School for the Deaf, making the town a potential hub for the deaf community in Connecticut and at large. Fire officials encourage all residents to protect their homes with smoke detection.

WHFD is offering Gentex 7109 photoelectric smoke alarms to those who need smoke detection within West Hartford. These smoke alarms sound when smoke is detected, and also have visual signaling.

The department asks anyone who needs smoke detection in their home to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office to receive a smoke alarm, free of charge.
