WEST HARTFORD, CT — In this day and age, being "grand" has come to include being a "grandchild," "grandparent" and, even, "granddog."

Thanks to the West Hartford Public Library, there's another "grand" to add — "grandfriend" — and its center to a very special program with a pretty unique concept.

On the first day, seniors will team up with "grandfriends" in grades 1 through 5 for board and card games at the West Hartford Public Library's Bishops Corner branch, 15 Starkel Road.

The effort is a partnership between the library and West Hartford's Bishops Corner Senior Center.

"This is an opportunity for school age children and senior members of our community to come together to enjoy fun activities and make new friends of all ages," wrote the library in a program announcement.

Each program requires individual registration both for children and seniors.

After Wednesday, there are two other programs scheduled with children: Aug. 2: No Bake Treats (Grades 2-5 . Notify organizers of any food allergies) and Aug. 9: Bingo (Grades 1-5).

Seniors register through the Bishops Corner Senior Center at 860-561-7583. Children Register online at this link.
