West Hartford Resident Killed in New Hampshire Crash

Melissa Molin, 21, was a senior at Colby-Sawyer College and on her way to class at the time of the accident.

Melissa Molin, 21, of West Hartford, died from injuries sustained in a single-car crash on I-89 in New Hampshire on Monday.

Molin was a senior at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire.

“The college community extends our deepest sympathies to Melissa’s family and many friends as they try to come to terms with this devastating loss,” the college said in a statement on Tuesday. “Melissa was a psychology major working to realize her dreams of becoming a counselor, and she was a member of the swimming and diving team.”

The college’s flag was lowered to half-staff on Tuesday.

Molin was on her way to Colby-Sawyer College when her Chevrolet Trailblazer crashed at 3:41 p.m. on I-89 North in Sutton, about 5 miles away from the school, during the middle of yesterday's snowstorm, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Sutton Police were assisted by troopers “attempting to render aid to the driver, who was seriously injured and trapped inside her vehicle,” according to Sgt. Ron Taylor of the NHSP.

“They provided first aid to her, the vehicle’s lone occupant, pending the arrival of New London and Sutton Fire Departments,” Taylor said in a statement. “EMS crews were eventually able to extricate the driver from her seriously damaged 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer.”

Molin was transported to Concord Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries, according to state police. The highway was closed for about two hours during the extraction effort.
