West Hartford's Decree: 'No Wire Hangers'
West Hartford recycling officials sent out a message about hangers Tuesday.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford recycling officials have a message for residents: "No Wire Hangers."
They are not, apparently, the dearest thing to put in the bins.
"Hangers don't belong in recycling bins," local officials said on a Tweet Tuesday.

Residents are being advised to drop metal hangers in the metal container at the local Department of Public Works Yard Waste and Recycling Center.
Most municipalities in Connecticut don't accept wire hangers for curbside recycling because the curved ends can jam recycling equipment.

As a result, the majority of metal hangers eventually find their way into the trash, something local officials want to avoid.
