West Hartford's Justina Pelletier Receiving Treatment in Philadelphia

Pelletier had been admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital prior to the move.

West Hartford’s Justina Pelletier, 16, was recently admitted to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for further testing of serious gastrointestinal pain, according to the Hartford Courant.

Pelletier, who was at the center of a back-and-forth custody battle after spending 16 months in Massachusetts after the state forced her hospitalization there, had been receiving care at Yale-New Haven Hospital since Sept. 27 prior to the move.

Lou Pelletier, Justina’s father, told the Hartford Courant on Sunday that the staff at Yale-New Haven “just didn’t have the expertise to deal with” her deteriorating condition.

“They were trying to do the best they could, but there were things beyond their expertise,” Pelletier told the Courant from Philadelphia.

Pelletier returned home from the state-forced hospitalization following a June 17 ruling by Massachusetts Judge Joseph Johnson ordering the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to release the teen to her parents.
