Kathy Burke Named Assistant Principal At Helen Keller Middle School
Easton Board of Education selects mathematics teacher from Southbury to fill vacant assistant prinicipal position.
From a highly-competitive field of 137 candidates, the selected Kathy Burke as its new assistant principal at Burke fills the position that was previously held by Susan Kaplan, who was promoted to principal.
Burke is currently a mathematics teacher and instructional leader with Region 15 schools in Southbury. In a joint press release, Superintendent Bernard Josefsberg and Kaplan said the selection process relied on input from parents, Board of Education members, and Helen Keller Middle School staff members.
According to Josefsberg and Kaplan, Burke separated herself from the competition because she was "an effective communicator whose professional and personal experiences will enable her to build strong relationships with students, staffers, and parents."

According to one of her colleagues in the Region 15 school system, "Kathy promotes a collaboration and is persistent in her desire to develop a culture that focuses on learning and teacher." Parents will have the opportunity to meet Burke and welcome her to the community to during open house at Helen Keller Middle School on September 15th.
