Redding Man Sentenced in Sex Assault of Minor
Court documents have described the man as a close personal friend of former Chairman of the Redding Board of Education Sara Sobel.

REDDING, CT -- Former Redding resident Stephen Overby was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the sexual assault of a minor in Superior court on Tuesday, the News-Times has reported.
In February, Overby pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors have alleged that former Chairman of the Redding Board of Education Sara Sobel gave some of the material to Overby. In court documents, Overby was described as a close personal friend of Sobel, and was living with her when the assault occurred,
Sobel has been charged with risk of injury to a minor, conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault and accessory to illegal sexual contact. Earlier this month, she rejected a plea deal that would have netted her ten years in prison, electing instead to go to trial.
