Update: East Main Street in Westport to Remain Closed for Portion of Tonight

The closure is due to a Tuesday morning crash that took out a telephone pole.

Updated at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016: East Main Street in Westport will remain closed for possibly another four hours, or well into tonight, according to Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods.

The closure is due to repair crews on the street who are in the midst of fixing a telephone pole that was knocked down Tuesday morning in a one-car crash. No injuries were reported.

The road is likely to remain closed at least until 8 p.m. Tuesday, and possibly beyond.

Original story: Westport, CT - A one-car crash on East Main Street Tuesday morning took out a telephone pole, requiring the temporary closure of the road, according to Westport police.

No injuries were reported in 8:05 a.m. crash, but East Main Street will be closed between Compo Road North and Whitney Street "for a significant period of time to facilitate the repair" of the pole.

"Eversource estimates that repairs will take approximately five (5) hours to complete," wrote Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement.
