Appeal Filed Over Denial of Affordable Housing Proposal in Westport

The five-story, 48-unit housing complex was slated for 122 Wilton Road.

WESTPORT, CT - The developer of a proposed five-story, 48-unit housing complex at 122 Wilton Road has filed an appeal following the plan's recent denial by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Garden Homes was seeking approval under the state's controversial 8-30g law, which allows certain affordable housing developments to circumvent local zoning laws.

Glastonbury attorney Mark K. Branse, who represents Garden Homes, told Westport Now that he is confident the appeal will be granted. P&Z members said the project would adversely impact traffic and the environment, among other concerns, when they denied it.

“So when the commission says that this site isn’t suitable for affordable housing, they are speaking in direct contradiction to the plan that the same commission adopted," Branse told Westport Now. “If affordable housing isn’t suitable in the location that their own plan designates, then where is it suitable?”
