Best Pizza In CT Named By The Daily Meal

The Daily Meal recently released its list of the "Best Pizza In Every State," and Connecticut's may surprise you.

The Daily Meal recently released its list of the "Best Pizza In Every State," a comprehensive gallery that showcases where hungry readers in each state can dig into the most spectacular pizza their home has to offer.

The best pizza in Connecticut may shock you...or it may not, as once again Pepe's Pizzeria Nepoletana in New Haven was given the honor. Though well-deserved, Pepe's has become a staple for lists of this nature, having won the same title from The Daily Meal last year.

The online foodie bible also recently named it the best pizza in the country, and the pizzeria itself was named the best Italian restaurant in the state. Yet after years of feeding the hungry masses, it seems Pepe's still delivers the same quality taste and atmosphere that has made it famous for being one of the best (and many times THE best) pizzas in the country.

"Two words: clam pie," The Daily Meal raves. "This is a Northeastern pizza genre unto its own, and Pepe's is the best of all — freshly shucked, briny littleneck clams, an intense dose of garlic, olive oil, oregano, and grated Parmigiano-Reggiano atop a charcoal-colored crust. The advanced move? Clam pie with bacon."

For those who don't know, Pepe's specializes in thin crust New Haven-style pizza pies. According to the pizzeria's website, each pizza is cooked in a coal fire oven to give these "tomato pies" their famous crisp, charred, chewy crust.

While the original location is still located in New Haven, Pepe's has since opened locations in Fairfield, Danbury, Manchester, West Hartford, Waterbury and Uncasville, as well as a few other locations outside of Connecticut.'
