A delightful outdoor sculpture by the artist, Bill King, was recently donated to Westport by the estate of Susan Malloy, a long-time resident of Westport, and was just installed for viewing at Earthplace. I knew Bill as a dear friend and patient of mine for 35 years and was saddened to hear that he had passed away this past March. Bill was an amazing artist, sculptor, educator, and one of the nicest people I have ever met – a truly exceptional human being.
By the way, Bill King was 6’6” tall and his wife, Connie Fox (also an artist) was only 5’2”. Almost all of his whimsical metal and wood sculptures portrayed tall men and shorter women in honor of his wife. His love for her was evident in every work he did of them together. They were together for more than 50 years.
As Chair of the Museum & Arts Committee of the Westport RTM, I am delighted to announce the installation of this imaginative and wonderful work of art, generously donated, which is open to viewing by the public at all times. A festival to be held at Earthplace shall showcase this large outdoor sculpture.
