Driver Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash In Westport: Police
After catching up with the suspect, Westport police said officers found a small amount of cocaine in his possession.
WESTPORT, CT — A 51-year-old New Haven man was arrested on Sept. 6, following a hit-and-run crash on the Post Road East in Westport, and during the arrest, officers found a small amount of cocaine in his possession, according to Westport police.
Victor Azevedo was charged with the following:
- Operate Unregistered Motor Vehicle
- Operate Motor Vehicle with Suspended License
- Evade Responsibility (Hit & Run)
- Failure to Drive Upon Right Side of Roadway
- Possession of Controlled Substance
- Failure to Insure Motor Vehicle
The incident occured at about 3:45 p.m. on the 6th, when police received reports of a hit-and-run crash on the Post Road East near Turkey Hill Road.

No injuries were reported in the crash, and witnesses were able to give police a description of the vehicle and the license plate number.
"The suspect vehicle fled from the crash and headed towards Fairfield," said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "A Westport Police Officer who was monitoring the
radio transmissions observed the vehicle traveling northbound on I-95. The vehicle exited I-95
at exit 25 and a motor vehicle stop was initiated."

Upon stopping Azevedo, police discovered he had a suspended license, and he "was found to be in possession of a small quantity of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine."
Azevedo was taken into custody and charged with the above-mentioned violations. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Sept. 27.
