Effort to Save White Barn Theatre Continues

Preservationists must raise millions of dollars to save the site.

WESTPORT, CT - Organizers of an effort to save the White Barn Theatre building gained a few months with the recent delay of a demolition permit to tear down the structure.

The permit was delayed to Aug. 1, which will give organizers more time to raise $5.2 million to buy the property, which is located at 78 Cranbury Ave. in Norwalk but which spans across the Westport border, reports the Westport News.

The Lucille Lortel and Waldo Mayo White Barn Foundation hope to buy the 15-acre site from 78 Cranbury, LLC, which plans to build a residential housing complex on the property.
