Over $88,000 Raised For Ride to Wellness and Housing Stability Fund for Older Adults

Nearly 140 golfers participate in the 16th Annual SilverSource Golf Tournament, supporting our older neighbors in need.

On Monday, May 23rd the 16th annual SilverSource golf tournament was held at Rockrimmon Country Club. Under sunny skies, 138 golfers enjoyed a great day filled with a pre-tournament brunch, golfing on a Robert Trent Jones course, a dinner banquet and an exciting awards ceremony and auction, led by Alan Kalter, David Letterman’s Late Show announcer. The event raised $88,000 to support SilverSource Housing Stability and the Ride to Wellness programs. The housing stability fund prevents evictions and homelessness among area residents aged 60+ and the rides program provides older adults with safe and reliable transportation to their medical appointments.

“It’s a pleasure to be here today. The charity of this group is tremendous and it’s a testament to the good work that SilverSource does to help people meet the challenges that come with aging,” said Stamford’s Mayor David Martin.

“There is a real energy to this year’s event,” said Karen Kelly, SilverSource’s Board Chair. “It’s been a big year for SilverSource, and it is exciting to see that the organization’s renewed energy is translating to increased interest by the community. Not only are we raising funds today, we’re also increasing awareness of SilverSource and all it does for older adults in need of our help.”

Undeniably, there is a need. Last year SilverSource saved 130 financially vulnerable older adults from homelessness. The organization, formerly known as Senior Services of Stamford, provides financial assistance to help people remain in their homes, or locates safe, affordable places for them to live. With projections that Fairfield County’s 60+ population living in poverty will nearly double in the next 15 years, funds are needed now more than ever.

The tournament honorees, Paul and Patricia Kuehner, were recognized with a standing ovation for their steadfast commitment to helping the community, especially those less fortunate. The couple actively supports several charities, both locally and abroad. Paul spoke eloquently about what he calls the three F’s: Faith, Family and Friendship–the magic formula for what drives us to help others and make events like this tournament a success. “If we’re not willing to help each other–at any age–then what are we here for,” said Paul Kuehner, who is President of Building and Land Technology, based in Stamford.
