Staples Parents Seek Investigation After Son's Death

The parents of a 14-year-old Staples High School student who died in December are asking for an investigation into whether he was the victim of cyberbullying.

Parents Peter Lanni and Cornelia Gallo lost their son Christopher Lanni after he died at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His death was ruled suicide by hanging by the state medical examiner’s office, according to the Norwalk Hour.

The parent’s open letter asked for a thorough investigation into allegations that he was bullied at school and/or social media accounts. They also wrote that students at the high school have reported seeing bullying or inappropriate behavoir, but don’t know how to respond or intervene, according to Westport Now.

Superintendent Elliot Landon said that the school system has been in contact with the police department since Dec. 23.

Police Lt. David Farrell said there is nothing in the police investigation that led the department to believe bullying or cyberbullying was a factor.
