Trooper Earns Service Award For Actions In Westport: State Police

WESTPORT, CT – At a ceremony Tuesday at the State Police Training Academy in Meriden, State Police Troopers and others received awards for service in Troop A, B, G and L area towns. The Connecticut State Police honors Troopers who demonstrate exceptional service in the line of duty.

According to a news release, the ceremony also honors men and women serving in local and federal law enforcement agencies, those serving as first responders, and civilians.

Award winners received medals and certificates from Commissioner Dora B. Schriro and State Police Colonel George F. Battle. Governor Dannel Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman also attended and addressed the recipients.

Among those awarded included Trooper Roberto Juan.

According to police, on June 16 at 1 p.m., Troop G received a 911 report of an unresponsive individual in a car parked in the Route 15, exit 42 commuter lot in Westport.

Police said Juan arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male seated in the vehicle. The man was not breathing and did not have a pulse.

Police said Juan quickly removed him from the vehicle and initiated CPR lifesaving efforts. He continued CPR for five minutes and was successful in obtaining a pulse. The man was later transported to a local hospital.

"The immediate response of Trooper Juan resuscitated the male and undoubtedly saved his life," police said in a release.

Juan earned the Medal for Lifesaving.
