Unofficial Vote Tallies Of Westport Voters In CT's Primary Election

WESTPORT, CT — Turnout was light Tuesday as Westport's registered Democrats and Republicans voted in Connecticut's primaries that decided candidates for this fall's election. The unofficial vote tallies are below.

On the ballot in Westport on the Democrats side were the candidates running for Secretary of State and state Treasurer. The overall primary winners in the state are in bold.

For Secretary of State, the winner in Westport was Stephanie Thomas with 1,265 votes (93.7 percent) over Maritza Bond, who had 85 votes (6.3 percent). On the ballot for state Treasurer, Westport Democrats chose Erick Russell with 903 votes (67.84 percent) over Dita Bhargava (313 votes, 23.52 percent) and Karen DuBois-Walton (115 votes, 8.64 percent).

Thomas will face Republican Dominic Rapini for Secretary of State in the fall.

In the general election for Treasurer, Russell will face Republican Harry Arora.

Westport Republicans had more primary races and more choices on their ballots on Tuesday.

For U.S. Senate, Westport Republicans chose Themis Klarides (251 votes, 49.31 percent) over Leora R. Levy (207 votes, 40.67 percent), though Levy was the eventual winner of the primary. Peter Lumaj was a distant third in Westport, with 51 votes and 10.02 percent.

Levy will oppose incumbent Democrat Richard Blumenthal in the fall.

Westport Republicans also chose a candidate for U.S. Representative in the 4th Congressional District, in which Jayme Stevenson (329 votes, 65.93 percent) defeated Michael Ted Goldstein (170 votes, 34.07 percent).

Stevenson will face incumbent Democrat Jim Himes in the fall.

And finally, Westport Republicans gave Rapini the victory (266 votes, 53.63 percent) over Terrie E. Wood (230 votes, 46.37 percent).
