Voting Audit Planned for Westport District

Votes will be re-checked from Connecticut's April 26 presidential primary.

WESTPORT, CT - The local Registrars of Voters will conduct an audit this week of the optical scan voting machine results of Westport's District 136-5, as part of a routine check, according to officials.

The votes to be checked were tabulated during the April 26 Democratic and Republican Presidential Preference Primaries.

"The audit is a routine selection of a percentage of voting districts throughout the state," Kevin White Sr., Westport's Republican Registrar of Voters, told Patch in a statement. "The selection is by random drawing of approximately 10 percent of all voting districts. There were no irregularities that generated the audit."

Added Marla Cowden, Democratic Registrar of Voters, "The intent of the audit is to independently validate the programming and performance of the optical scan tabulating machines used in an election or primary."

The audit will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, in Room 201 of Westport Town Hall, located at 110 Myrtle Ave.
