Westport Library Announces Public Forum on Renovation Project

The Westport Library will host a public forum to share the plans for its upcoming transformation and renovation project on November 10.

The Westport Library will host a public forum to share the plans of the Library’s upcoming transformation and renovation project on Thursday, November 10 from 7-9 pm in the Library’s McManus Room. Executive Director Bill Harmer will discuss details of the plan and answer questions.

The major goal of the Transformation Project is to renovate the Library from a static structure into a dynamic environment by addressing the Library’s most consistent challenge—the need for more flexible space. The building will remain within its existing footprint. When completed, the renovated Library will provide:

  • A central programming forum that can accommodate more than 400 people.
  • Flexible space for gathering, working and playing in the Great Hall, creating a 75% increase in open work and study areas.
  • An updated, expanded and enhanced Riverwalk level, giving readers a quiet environment with increased natural light and views of the Saugatuck River.
  • Opportunities for diverse and simultaneous programming, more collaborative and group activities and advances in our MakerSpace activities.
  • More meeting and study rooms that can accommodate groups of all sizes.
  • A new entrance to the main level on the Jesup Green side of the Library to support more activity on the Green and strengthen the Library’s connection to Main Street.
  • Updated, more reliable and more energy-efficient HVAC and electrical systems, lighting and energy control systems, and updated plumbing.
