Westport Opens Warming Centers With Cold Temperatures Forecast

"With this incoming blast of arctic air and dangerously low wind chills, our priority is the health and safety of all Westport residents."

WESTPORT, CT — Westport has opened warming centers in town beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday through noon on Friday, due to a forecast of arctic air and dangerously low wind chills throughout the state.

Designated Warming Centers & Hours:

Westport Center for Senior Activities: 21 Imperial Ave
Thursday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Sat/Sun - Closed

Thursday-Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sat, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sun, 1 p.m.–5 p.m.

Westport/Weston Family YMCA: 14 Alan Raymond Lane
Thursday-Friday: 5:30 AM-9:00 PM | Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Assistance for Residents
Westport residents experiencing hardships due to the cold weather should contact Human Services at 203-341-1050 during regular office hours, Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

After-Hours & Overnight Shelter:
For shelter needs outside of these hours, or if you require overnight accommodation:
  • Dial 2-1-1: Staff is available 24/7 to assist with shelter referrals and transportation.
  • Dial 9-1-1: For immediate medical emergencies only.

Forecast & Safety Reminder
Thursday night temperatures are expected to fall into the teens, with wind chills near 0°F, creating potentially life-threatening conditions for prolonged outdoor exposure. Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, cover exposed skin, and check on vulnerable neighbors, seniors, and pets.
