According to a criminal information summary released by the Wilton Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 9:33 p.m. Feb. 11 to the area of Westport Road and Dudley Road on a report of a motor vehicle nearly driving off the roadway multiple times. The driver, identified as Sergio P. Mendes, 48, of Norwalk, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. Mendes was unable to perform the standardized field sobriety tests to standard and was taken into custody.
During an initial search, officers recovered a plastic vial containing a white powdery substance from Mendes’ pocket, which he admitted was cocaine, according to the report. Mendes submitted to a breath test, which yielded negative results for alcohol. He declined to provide a urine sample for a second chemical test, police said.
