VASUDO - A New Kind of Local Band

VASUDO, a band made up of mostly local Wiltonians has been taking the live music scene by storm. The band, which is on their way back from a Southeastern tour backing up Tubby Love and his new EP,’The Real Thing’ is comprised of 6 members from Wilton (with the exception of Ben Atkind [Drums] from Needham, MA); Rick Mitarotonda, Matt Campbell, Trevor Weeks & Chris Reid, along with their manager Will Thresher all resided in Wilton for a large majority of their lives. After uniting a couple summers ago Rick (Guitar & Vocals) and Matt (Keyboards & Vocals) went on the hunt to create a band with a new take on the industry, musically and structurally. Rick brought in Ben Atkind who was a fellow student at Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA to play drums. After bringing in Will Thresher for managerial and creative structure (Will creates all of VASUDO’s artwork including show and album art in addition to managing the band) Trevor Weeks (Bass) & Chris Reid (Percussion & Vocals) joined the crew as the final pieces to the VASUDO puzzle shortly after. The band likes to describe their music genre as Spectrum saying, “We really like to play around with genres without limiting ourselves, using Spectrum as a descriptive word gives us the mentality that we can play within any genre without losing our style, so long as we’re playing it to our full potential.” They definitely live up to their stance by visiting many genres throughout their live shows, such as; rock, reggae, dance music, folk, jazz, improvisational, even a touch of country and grass from time to time. They also live up to their new ideas on the vastly changing music industry. Offering all of their shows for free, forever, the band hopes to build a loyal fan-base that will fuel their musical adventure. “The fans are all that matter these days, they can take and give whatever they want from you without you even knowing they existed.” Instead of playing the game of industry in it’s current state (hit-singles for high profit/low live shows) the boys envision bringing live music back to where it belongs, with real instruments, played in the moment (rather than sequenced on a computer), within the fans and without the industry. “A kid in his basement now has the ability to record his own album and sell it on iTunes, or at least gain recognition through many mediums on the Internet. We see no reason why we can’t have complete control over our music, and let the fans decide for themselves what they want to keep/share, or ignore completely.” Who can argue with that reasoning with the way word spreads in our modern internet-fueled world, PR is only a Facebook post away, or a fan tweeting a song lyric while distribution can be as simple as sending an email, there’s no doubt that the industry is changing and VASUDO believes it’s for the best. Reminiscing of a new-old return of live music and fan-based recognition, VASUDO hopes to build something beyond ordinary and unique by keeping the music, design, art, production, marketing and distribution within the family VASUDO is building.

VASUDO will be at the Wilton Fireworks on July 4th and will be playing at O’Neill’s Pub in South Norwalk for their “America Show” (make sure you wear American attire to win a free shirt!) on July 7th, 2012. 9:30 PM
