Back in the Dark Again

Official word from CL&P representative Lacey Ryan is that they had "some wires down issues" in Wilton, Weston and Redding, perhaps attributable to lightning in the area.

Ryan said Wilton customers should have power back "in another hour or so," and remaining customers in Weston may have to wait around two hours.

"We have crews on the scene currently working on the problem," she said. "We had wires down and then a subsequent equipment failure."

Ryan added that the bulk of the outages in Wilton are in the Old Mill Road area.

UPDATE: 10:21 p.m.

Wilton's once again in the lead for regional power outages. Looks like power has been restored to much of Weston (except for my apartment), where CL&P is reporting only 329 outages (about 8 percent of thier customers there), down from 1,400 earlier.

Wilton's outages stand at 619, or almost nine percent, as of just after 10 p.m.

On the entertaining side of things, the only candle I have in my apartment is lavendar-scented. So, I'm considering myself pampered tonight.

A resident also reported, via Facebook, that while on hold for CL&P she received a prompt asking her if she'd like to make a donation. Can't make this stuff up.

10:00 p.m.

After days of power outages and road closures in town, it's likely that most in Wilton were looking forward to a weekend reprieve. Sadly, over 600 town residents aren't getting it.

Power went down in Wilton just after 8 p.m. this evening and remains out for a significant portion of the eastern side of town. Weston was even harder hit, currently reporting around 1,4o0 customers without power (almost 40 percent of customers there).

Calls have been placed to CL&P's on-call media representative (after a solid 45 minute wait time on hold, which featured such melodic interludes as Sheryl Crow's "The First Cut is the Deepest"). But the company was able to say, unofficially, that they were hoping to have power restored at some point in the next few hours.

The Wilton Police Department had no information and while they are certainly available for emergencies, they added that they don't keep in touch with CL&P and are urging residents to contact the company directly with power-related questions.

More information as it becomes available (and assuming both my cell phones don't die, since I can't charge them).
