Candidate for Wilton First Selectman is Suing the Town
Michael Powers, a petitioning candidate, claims that the Board of Selectmen did not follow Robert's Rules of Order on numerous occasions.
WILTON, CT — One of the candidates for first selectman in Wilton this November is suing the town.
Michael Powers, a petitioning candidate, claims that the Board of Selectmen did not follow Robert’s Rules of Order on numerous occasions. That oversight makes the motions "null and void," according to the complaint filed on Sept. 29.
Powers names the Board of Selectmen, First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice, Second Selectman David Clune, Selectmen Lori Bufano, Josh Cole, and Deborah McFadden, as well as the Town of Wilton as defendants in the suit.

Thirty-seven of the motions put forth by the Board of Selectmen "did not meet the standard for a 'Motion' pursuant to Robert's Rule of Order, are therefore 'Out of Order,' and consequently 'Null and Void.' All 'Out of Order' motions of the WBoS must be vacated and all motions put forth, going forward, must be in compliance..." the complaint stated. Powers has filed for a temporary and permanent injunction.
In the complaint, Powers claims that allowing the Board of Selectmen "to continue to create Null and Void motions" will cause him "irreparable harm."
