Canine Company Donates Pet Oxygen Mask Kits to 57 Communities
The Wilton-based company has now provided the life-saving kits to more than 400 fire departments and rescue squads
When fire strikes, pets are at special risk because they can’t get out of the house without assistance. They often suffer smoke inhalation and need oxygen when rescued. But without oxygen masks that fit over an animal’s snout, first responders are often unable to help.
That’s why at-home pet services provider Canine Company donates specially designed pet oxygen masks to fire departments and first aid squads in the communities it serves.
During 2017, Canine Company donated 173 sets of pet oxygen masks to 57 fire departments and rescue squads across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey.

“At Canine Company, our mission is to help families keep their pets healthy, safe and happy at home,” says Renee Coughlin of Canine Company. “We do that not just with the products and services we offer, but through our charitable programs, too.
“Since we began donating the oxygen masks in 2008, we’ve given more than 960 sets of masks to over 400 fire departments and EMS units in the communities where we do business. We look forward to continuing to donate these masks to first responders in the coming year.”

Fire and EMS departments that do not yet have the masks can learn more about the donation program on the Canine Love page of the company’s website.
Masks donated by Canine Company were used to save the lives of at six pet during 2017, including rescues in Ansonia, Branford and Danbury. The masks are designed in a cone shape to fit securely over an animal’s snout. Each set includes masks in three sizes to fit pets ranging from small mammals like rabbits to giant-breed dogs. The masks connect to the standard oxygen tanks rescue teams carry.
Canine Company also provided first responders with more than 5000 “Pets Inside” decals to distribute to families in their communities to alert first responders that there are pets in the home.
