Connecticut Labor Day Weekend 2015 Crime Stats Released

Connecticut State Troopers patrolled the highways and roads in Connecticut over this 2015 Labor Day Weekend.

The enforcement project began at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 4 and will run through Sept. 7 at midnight.

Troopers focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols were in place over the entire weekend.

These State Police stats cover the time period starting at midnight on Sept. 4 through Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. Final stats will be released Monday morning.

So far, 1,464 speeding tickets have been issued, 77 seatbelt infractions, and 3,192 moving violations, which include unsafe lane changing, following too closely, and distracted driving.

There have also been 36 DUI arrests, a total of 273 accidents including 52 with injury and two fatals, which both occured in Montville on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5.

By way of comparison in 2014, there were 1,727 speeding tickets issued, 200 seat belt violations, and 3,720 moving violations.

In 2014 there were 35 DUI arrests, 315 accidents including 33 with injuries and one fatal accident.

Additional roving patrols and checkpoints are planned tonight.
