With Two Berths Left in Girls Basketball Tourney, Math Gets Tricky
Four teams — Westhill, Wilton, Norwalk and Darien — are still in contention for two remaining playoff spots heading into the final game of the season

The FCIAC girls basketball playoff race will go down to the final game of the regular season on Wednesday as four teams battle for the last two postseason berths.
Westhill (11-6) is currently in seventh with Wilton (10-7), Norwalk (10-7), and Darien (10-7) close behind in eighth. Two of the four teams will be left out in the FCIAC's version of musical chairs.
At the top, Trumbull (17-0), Ridgefield (15-2) and New Canaan (14-3) have clinched home games in the quarterfinals, which are set for Saturday at the site of the higher-ranked teams.

Trinity Catholic (13-4) also can secure a home game with a win at Greenwich on Wednesday, while St. Joseph (12-5) and Danbury (12-5) have locked up playoff spots.
Westhill and Darien have each posted huge road wins over Danbury in the last week to stay alive. The Vikings won at Danbury, 47-46, on Friday and the Blue Wave knocked off the Hatters, 49-43, on Monday.

That game sets up Wednesday's clash of Westhill at Darien as a possible winner-take-all battle.
Wilton, which has been one of the FCIAC's hottest teams with eight wins in its last nine games, needs to upset No. 2 seed Ridgefield at home on Wednesday to get in. If that doesn't happen, the winner of the Westhill-Darien contest would be guaranteed a playoff spot.
With a win, Westhill clinches the No. 6 seed straight up. But if Westhill loses to Darien and Norwalk beats McMahon, the Vikings are eliminated based on their 0-2 record against Norwalk and Darien.
In this scenario, Norwalk would then get the No. 7 seed because of its head-to-head sweep against Westhill and Darien (36-34 win). Darien would settle for the No. 8 seed.
If Wilton somehow knocks off Ridgefield, a myriad of other playoff scenarios would come into play, as it could create a four-way tie.
