Fined for Late Night Fishing

Something must have seemed fishy to security about a car parked after hours at the Lake Club on Sept. 8.

According to police, Lake Club security observed four New Canaan youths park their vehicle at the facility after closing time and head down a path that was clearly marked with "No Trespassing" signs.

"They apparently proceeded down a trail to wherever they were going," said Wilton Police Lieutenant Don Wakeman. "They purposefully disregarded no trespassing signs."

Wakeman said the youths, two 17-year-olds and two 16-year-olds, were at the club to go fishing, which is illegal on the property.

When officers tried to approach the youths, they scattered and the officers had trouble getting them to return to their vehicle. Eventually, officers had to enlist the help of the youth's parents to get a hold of them.

All four youths were charged with simple trespassing and given $92 fines.
