Fire Decimates Old Kingdom Road Home

There were no reported injuries and the fire department had the blaze extinguished just after 6 p.m.

A substantial fire engulfed and decimated a residence at 74 Old Kingdom Hill Rd. in Wilton around 6 p.m. Monday night.

Police at the scene reported that it was a single residence structure fire with no injuries. The cause is as yet unknown. The home belongs to Jay Fielden and Yvonne Orteig Frances and was purchased for $900,000 in 2007.

Multiple fire and rescue crews were on scene and the gutted home was still smoldering as of 6:45 p.m. Residents in the area reported smelling smoke as far away as Belden Hill Rd.

Police have closed Old Kingdom Road between 74 and 85 "for the next few hours," and could not say when the road would be reopened.

Several area fire departments responded and fire fighters were gathered in the driveway of the residence after the blaze was extinguished, some with charred uniforms, guzzling cold water brought by Wilton EMS crews.

The modern, ranch-style home was built in 1960 and is 2,376 square feet.
